Nick Pasquale
Nick Pasquale’s pitching talent carried him to the doorstep of the major leagues. His ability was recognized early at Antioch High School, where in 2009 he earned First Team All–BVAL honors. That success led to a scholarship at Saint Mary’s College. After two years, he transferred to Diablo Valley College, where he truly emerged as a standout pitcher.
Nick’s 2012 season at DVC was exceptional. He posted a 12–3 record with a 1.88 ERA, earning First Team All–Big 8 Conference, All-State, and All-American honors. In 14 starts, he completed six games while pitching 110 innings. His dominant season led to his selection in the 20th round of the MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
Nick quickly proved himself in professional baseball. During his first season, he played for three Class A teams and compiled a 4–1 record with a 3.58 ERA. The following year, pitching in the Carolina League, he finished 6–7 with a 3.97 ERA. In 2014, shoulder surgery forced him to miss the entire season, but he returned in 2015 with a 4–3 record over 73 innings pitched.
In 2016, Nick earned a promotion to Double-A with the Akron RubberDucks. He finished the year with a combined 7–8 record and a 3.82 ERA, including a successful Triple-A call-up where he won his lone start. One of the highlights of his career came during the Eastern League playoffs, when he pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters. The RubberDucks won the game 1–0, clinching a spot in the Eastern League Championship Series.
Nick continued pitching professionally for two more seasons, primarily at the Class A and Double-A levels and retired after the 2018 season. Over the course of his professional career, he compiled a 31–31 record with a 3.99 ERA and appeared in 188 professional games.
Rob Patton
During the 1983 and 1984 seasons, Rob Patton has a defensive standout for the Panthers. A two-year starter at middle linebacker, Patton was the leader of defenses that were instrumental in the Panther’s impressive run of back-to-back DVAL co-championships. As a senior, Patton was recognized by his teammates as a team captain and named Most Inspirational Player. His play garnered the respect of the league’s coaches when they named him to the All-DVAL first-team defense.
However, it was after graduation where Patton’s abilities really blossomed. He was awarded a full ride scholarship to play football at Sacramento State – the first year that the Hornets gave out athletic scholarships. Patton was a four-year letterman and 3-year starter at middle linebacker.
In 1988, he was part of a Hornet team that is still considered one of greatest in school history. The Hornets won a school record (at that time) 10 games, advanced to the NCAA semi-finals and set several team defensive records that still stand today. That team was inducted into the Sacramento State Football Hall of Fame in 2020. Individually, Patton peaked in his senior season of 1990.
His totals for unassisted tackles (74) and total tackles (136) that season still rank as first and third on the all-time Hornet record book – the total tackle record standing for over 25 years. He was named first-team All-Western Football Conference at middle linebacker. In addition, he was chosen as the team’s co-MVP and outstanding DB/LB by his teammates.
His individual career accomplishments, as well as his contributions to the 1988 team, led Patton to be inducted into the Sacramento State football Hall-of-Fame in 2020.
