Rally Rounsaville – Antioch Sports Legend Passes Away

Rally Rounsaville, remembered as one of Antioch’s greatest athletes and an even greater father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 24, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in Oklahoma and raised in Antioch, Rally’s athletic gifts shined early. At Antioch High School, he earned All-League honors in baseball and basketball, set a school record in the long jump, and became one of the Diablo Valley Athletic League’s leading scorers. He continued his success at Diablo Valley College, earning All-Conference honors in both sports.

At Cal Poly, Rally led the conference in scoring as a senior, earned First Team All-Conference honors, and set four school records. His performance earned him honorable mention on the Small College All-America team and selection in the 1962 NBA Draft by the St. Louis Hawks. He also competed with the Oakland Oaks before returning home to Antioch. His achievements led to induction into both the Antioch Sports Legends and Diablo Valley College Halls of Fame.

Rally’s love of competition endured through golf, where he was known for his steady putting and amazed friends by shooting his age many times-a rare & remarkable feat.

Beyond athletics, Rally made a lasting impact on his community. With his brother Butch, they owned and operated Century 21 in Antioch for nearly 40 years, serving local families with dedication and integrity.

Rally is survived by his ex-wife, Denise; daughter, Leslie Butler; sons, Scott and Bob (Tanya); grandchildren Sage, Joe, Joslyn, Sierra, and Evan; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Lois Buccelato and Loretta Hull (Mike); and his brother, Butch (Bev). He was preceded in death by his mother Annie, father Jake and beloved sister, Joyce Saulter.

To Antioch, Rally will always be a legend. To his family, he was something even greater: a man of humility, strength, and love. His true legacy lies not in records or honors, but in the family he built, the friendships he forged, and the example he set for all who knew him.

A memorial was held Sunday, October 26th, at noon at Lone Tree Golf Course.
